Default Torque conv. bolt help!

I'm preparing for my converter swap, and I'm trying to do it slowly over the course of several days, in an effort not to kill myself. Anyway I have the 8mm hex bolts that hold the converter to the flex plate. I got 2 of them off, but the last one is kinda stripped. The threads aren't stripped, but the allen head/hex part is.

What should I do??? Its kinda tight in there and I'm affraid if I wrench on it 1 more time that will be it. Vise Grips, drill it out? I don't want to hack up the flexplate! Any ideas?

i say vise grips are worth a try.... if you have a dremel, you could cut a notch in it... then get a screwdriver and hammer and start smackin at it...

Try to get vise grips on it real tight, then heat the flexplate. Then see if it will break loose.

I tried the vise grip thing, and its too hard to get a good grip on it with the gear teeth on the flex plate.

My dad had a good idea though. He said to epoxy the 8mm hex head socket on the bolt, let it cure for about 24hrs, then give a twist. He learned it from his dad. Hehehe! He said it's worked for him in the past like a charm. I'll lose the socket though. Small price to pay to the performance gods. The things my family passes on. I'll keep you posted!

last time i saw a stripped head bolt; joe welded another bolt to the head of the conv bolt and it came out with no problems.
it only takes a couple good spot welds to hold it on,

good luck,

allen

The same thing happened to me. 2 out of 3 rounded out on me. I was able to get one of them out using a torq bit, but the last one required the dremel and a few grinding bits. If you have the flexible dremel attachment, that'll make thing a little easier. Good luck and don't forget your safety goggles.

Allen has a good idea if you have a welder. Epoxy may work. I'll have to remember that one.

I used this method all the time when I used to get paid to work on cars. I think the heat from the weld helps to break it loose too.

I heated mine up with a small propane torch, came right out after that.

Ever get it out? From what it sounds like you were using an allen wrench to try to get out? Next time just use a regular socket to grab the outside of the bolt.

get yourself an irwin kit. Same thing happened on my friends silvy when we swithed out his torque converters. This thing was a life saver! Well worth having a round.. and works great on getting out those stripped bolts. Let us know if you get it out.
