BB- take a look at this for a simple explanation:

http://www.howstuffworks.com/torque-converter.htm

silent1- get a mid sized converter and some nitrous and you are set.

thanks big tex & brian

so lets say its a 3200 stall, does that mean that it will boost the torque level at that rpm?

i've noticed a lot of you are running nitrous, but i'm trying to stay away from that. i'd like to have all my power on demand instead of behind a push button. i've thought about superchargers but can never decide which one to go with. i think i'll end up getting a 3000 stall yank so i can keep my full tow capacity. what do you guys think?

Bigtex: TOO SLOW BIATCH!

silent1: yep, a 3000 is the way to go if you want to try and get the best of both worlds

as far as superchargers though, i just havent seen good enough gains from them as of yet when compared to nitrous. There are too many problems (lots of heat soak, detonation, various other tuning problems). I'm sure others may disagree with me, but this is just my opinion from what I have seen so far.

if you want power all the time without having to refill your bottle. Personally i would look into a bigger CI motor. You could put one together for the same or not much more than a new supercharger kit and it would have some pretty strong internals some pretty stong internals

i am with really slow on the super charger, i have a whipple and if i did it again i would skip the whipple and go strait for an MTI422, then add a litte N2O if i need more.

i have the yank 3000 and it is vary tame, i tow with it all the time, drive it every day, took me about 5minutes to get used to it.

what kind of times are you running? i would love to know, but without a converter an the loss of low end you are geting killed out of the hole, i think a converter is just what you need.

like i said earlier, i recently went to the track (for the first time). i went with my friend's grand prix club to a gathering in Overland Park, Kansas. everyone there was pretty upset with their times, they all said they were off anywhere from .5 to a full 1.5 sec. needless to say, after all the time and $ i've put into my truck, i was very disappointed. my best time was a 15.7! My friend's gtp ran a 14.5 when it was stock, for the gathering he had an under-drive pulley for his supercharger (a 3.4 pulley i believe), cat-back custom exhaust, cold air fender well intake, and a custom pcm. his best time was a 14.8! everyone expected 13.8 or 13.9 for him, so i really don't know if those times are accurate. another thing is that i was running on a full 26 gallon tank of gas, i also realized after i came home that i had 2 major vacuum leaks. My friends and i are heading to the track again on the 27th next month, i should have my converter and shift kit by then. from everything i've learned about converters thanks to you guys, i hope/expect to hit low 14's. i'll keep you guys posted on it. again, thanks for all the info.

Bryan - I gave you that link to howstuffworks last year when you were a noob. Now look how you repay me. I had a paragraph typed up, then deleted it and posted the link instead. I guess I balked.

silent1- what were the rest of your numbers on that slip: 60', 1/8th, mph, etc...

Jim - Its not too late to sell your whipple, and put a mean heads/cam combo on that 6.0 and follow that up with a little juice. I guarantee that you'd be faster.

jim: im gonna have to go with what richard said. Sell the charger... get a basic nitrous kit, and then still have alot of money left over for a heads/cam package (tea stage 2s are relatively cheap too )
