tr220 + 6.0 related
I'm looking into swapping in my brother's (RED04REGENCYRST) old tr220 in my truck. I was wondering if I could get away from using a TC? The 4.56's should help a bit down low. Eventually I'm gonna get the Yank 2600 Truck thruster, but a wedding comes first
I'm just looking for a little more bump and thump over the little o'le 212/218 "low lift". It's still a great cam though!

You could get away with the stock torque converter for awhile if you plan on getting the Tr220 cam. With you being a 6.0 and with those gears as you said, its not going to be too bad, but yes you definitely need to get a converter later on to compliment the setup.
Also IMO, I would shoot for a 2800 converter at least. Are you paying full retail price for the Yank Truck Thruster converter or are you getting it on sale? If you can get it under retail pricing from someone then go for it. You can find other companies that make or can build a converter for less money. I saw the yank 2600 thruster go for $900 retail on a couple websites.
Some companies make 9.5" 80E billet race converters for $700-$750..
I like yank, but I just don't see spending $900 for a 300mm 2600rpm 80E converter. If you just look around or do research you can find some deals on converters. FTI is a well known brand and they offer full fledged 80E race converters for $750. If you email them, I bet they could custom build you one to match the specs of the yank for much cheaper. Another company that can do it cheaper is called Revmax. There are others that can do it cheaper too.

Thanks guys! I figured it would be alright, but was just wondering. The reason I was wanting to go w/the YANK truck thruster 2600 was to retain towing capabilities. It only retails for $475. Although I could probably go a bit bigger b/c of my trans cooler. I'm not going full out race truck or anything, just simple supporting mods.
From their website:
TRUCK THRUSTER SERIES 2600
Our Price: $475.00
YANK Truck Thruster Series 2600 stall converter is built on a 278 mm platform. This series is a non billet converter, it also retains stock towing capacity.
One piece roller burnished hub
new torrington bearings
fully furnace brazed pump and impeller
hardened splines
1 free re-stall in first year
3 yr. warranty
Again it's down the road. I have to buy injectors badly since I'm maxed out

BTW you can keep full towing capabilities with a 2800rpm converter. Some guys even tow large loads with a 3000 rpm converter with a 40K trans cooler.

If you end up installing the tr220 and looking to sell the 212/218. Send me the full specs and a price. I'm in the market for a cam lol. I can't give any info on whether or not it would be ok. I don't see why not because the tr220 makes its power at I believe 1700. From the site atleast. And with the 4.56 gears you should get to 1700 relatively quickly. Good luck.
