Default Track Times - Disappointed

Finally made it to the track today. My G-timer has been lying to me. I am very disappointed.

In the low 80's. Mountian Parkway Dragstrip. Clay City, KY.
Best 14.54 @ 91.7mph, 60ft 2.15. G-Timer of same run timed 14.15 @ 95mph.

My original goal when starting with mods to my truck was to get into the 13's and thought I had. Even had hopes of 12's. I have seen times on the G-timer as low as 13.44. Averaging 13.80's. These times were clocked with much cooler temps. If it has been off by .4 all along I've probably been averaging low 14's.

I'm now going ahead with a torq converter. Probably jump in on the Yank TrT2600 group buy going on. Definately motivated now to get my Cam Motion 205/212 .550/.544 114+ 4 installed. Along with the Transgo kit that is collecting dust in the garage. What do you guys think I'll gain with these additional mods?

My next thoughts are toward my tune. I have HP Tuners but no tuning skill. I've really not modified the "meat" of the tune that came with the Radix even after installing a 3.25 pulley. Anybody care to comment on how "conservative" this tune is and how much ET could safely be gained with a good tuning on dyno?

Welcome to the real world Take a look at your tune. There is power to be had there for sure. I'll bet you short shift the 1-2 like mine did. It would totally nose over. If you raise that it will help some. You also need to fortify your transmission and change your transmission line pressures so you can remove torque management. That's some more power right there. I also added timing to my low rpm range and that seems to help. But all this requires that you either know what you are doing or at least have a very good idea.

Of course, a safe bet is to go ahead and buy a custom tune from Nelson or someone and then do the fine tweaking yourself.

with that TC and the transgo shift kit( remove the torque management with tune), i would think you should be able to hit the 13's.

i have heard good and bad about the tune that comes with the radix. one guy on silveradoss.com claims he had better times with the radix tune verses a custome mail order tune, so on that i dont know what to tell you. if i were you, i would read constatnly for several hours, and practice, and learn how to tune and do it yourself on the road. iam sure that could help you alot. good luck whatever you do. mid 14s are still pretty good times, but you should be able to get into the 13s with a few tranny mods like the TC and shift kit i would think.

Do you have a boost gauge so you know you have 8 psi for sure? What pulley are you running?

The cam will give you an additional 15 HP all over the powerband (20 or more peak HP), and that Yank should cut .3 sec or more off your time. After those installs, get a tune.

Boost gauge holds 8psi, touches 9 near my 5700 1-2 shift. 3.25 Nelson Pulley

Go with a Yank TT3000,a Eaton posi and some Drag Radials;that will put you easily into the low 13s.With those mods my Tahoe ran 13.20 at 101mph.

Are you launching/running in 4wd? I'd go for the TT3000 or a simillar converter, it will really knock some time off.

Launch 4WD, hold the brake and put as much throttle to her as they will hold. Brake stalls to about 1600, builds maybe 1-2 psi boost before the brakes can't hold her back. Does not turn over a tire at launch in 4wd, not even a chirp. I run past the 1-2 shift in 4WD then got to 2WD.
