Default trailer lights???

my truck didn't come with the trailer package stock so i'm gonna have to put a trailer light system on it this week cuz i'm moving. anyways, what have you guys used, is there a direct plug in system for the trucks? i know there was one for my jeep that just directly plugged in and there was no splicing at all. TIA.

On my truck the wires were already back there by where the hitch would be, just with nothing wired to them. I wired in a flat-4 and it has been fine ever since. I don't tow anything that has electric brakes, just left/right/stop/running lights. I technically didn't splice anything since the wires ended there and i just put the plug on the end. You can buy a flat-4 just about anywhere, I happened to pick mine up at a United Rentals here in town.

slow i did a search and it showed a plug in harnes. so i would think you should be able to pick one up at the local parts store. O the search had a price of like 12$

When I got my truck, it didn't have the hitch. I immediatly went back to the dealership to complain. They put a hitch on it when I went back up there.

From that, I'm assuming there is a GM package that includes the hitch platform, reciever hitch, and all the wiring needed. I would go that route for the simplist, factory installation look.

I ordered my truck without the trailering package due to the roll pan and hidden hitch I put on so it had all the wiring, just no plug at the end.

Not related really, but interesting nonetheless, when you order a truck without a radio, it still comes with all of the wiring, plugs, speakers, etc, just no actual head unit.

My 03 already came with a harness - mine also did not have a trailer package
- went to the dealer and got the adapter ( round ) which adapts down to a 4 wire -
FYI - there is a bullentin from GM - about the wiring schem on the newer trucks is different - also deals with the running lights etc...
I rec'd the bullentin and appropriate part numbers
I will look in my file tonight.
I went to my Chev parts dept - they were unaware about it - but did get the right part
- Reason - I run a 3rd brake light off the trailer wiring - I have a Custom 3rd brake light lis plate with turn signals.
