How much fluid do the 4l60e trannies take i cant find anything on how much it needs, someone has to know. Plus are there any problems with removing the pan from the tranny myself.

Should take 4-5qts when you change the filter I think. Good luck getting the drain bolt out. My brother in law works on them for a living and he says if he gets one to come out without using a chisel he feels like he won the lottery.

Everything L82 said. I think total capacity of a dry trans is 12 quarts. Roughly 5 quarts when you drop the pan. 3-4 quarts if you put in a new converter.

Hope you have small hands... you will enjoy taking the entire pan out! Hope you are part of the luck 1% whose drain plug actually comes out!

hey just a piece of experience i learned from this. use a hammer (or pry bar) to move the throttle cable mount (metal thing) out of the way to drop the pan. i broke a part of my electronics inside doing mine. lucky me i had a warranty still.
