Default tranny swap

I was wondering if it was reasonable to swap in a 6speed tranny from a camaro, vette, etc.? Would it be stout enough in a truck? I've got the 4.8 rcsb. What kind of modifications would have to be done as far as drive shaft and mounting brackets? I have heard bad things about the manual trannies that come in trucks or I would swap one of those in. Or would it be better to just put in a stall converter in my 4l60e with a shift kit and servo?

From what I've gathered the manual will bolt right up. You would have to have a doner truck to get all the clutch hardware off of, but other than that it would be just fine. The next problem would be finding a good clutch taht can survive some slippage and still hold good.

The torque converter idea isn't a bad one at all. LOTS less work and probably a little cheaper.
