Question TransGo Shift vs. Reprogramming

I was checking out these kits. What is the difference between the two? I did a search but didn't find anything that gave specific differences. I saw some references to a TransGo HD. Is that another name for one of these? Also, I have seen a TransGo kit that is for use with a manual shifter. Anyone in here using that one? How do I choose which one to use? Does it matter if I am going to use an aftermarker converter?

I have the shift kit .. I don't remember the part number, but it's described as the one that has the video with it. Programming can't do what the shift kit can. There are some hardware changes that should be made to the tranny. Installed moderately, the shift kit is an excellent addition and is even better with a converter.

I did some more searching and here is what I found at this site:

http://www.txchange.com/sk.htm

This:

1993 up
Prevents/Corrects/Reduces:
Cut loose & bang from reverse
to drive; forward and low/reverse clutch burn up; 1-2 bump;
double bump; slide-bump; delayed reverse engagement hot.

and these:
General Motors High Performance / Heavy Duty Reprogramming Kits:

4L60E-HD2
4L60E (700 Electronic)
l993 up
Crisp muscle car shifts. Puts the driver in command. Holds 1st,
2nd,3rd to any speed. Back shifts to 3rd, 2nd & 1st at any rpm.

4L60E-3
4L60E (700 Electronic)
1993up
Stick shift; Full manual control; Converts back to automatic; Competition, off road and pro-street; Holds 1st, 2nd and 3rd to any rpm; Back shifts to 3rd, 2nd and 1st at any rpm

So which one is which? Or are there more?

Does TransGo have a website?

You want the TransGo PSK-4L60E. $98.XX from www.kdsperformance.com It comes in a multicolored box. I believe the TransGo HD and HP kit in the plainer blue box is the same setup minus the video tape...BUT don't hold me to that. Gimme a few min and I'll get you some links...

I think the info you posted up was for the corrective shift kit that should go in a car for Grandmama. It seems like the full VB rebuild kit that includes fixes yet keeps the shifts softer...not for performance usage.

Is this the same one that Tbyrne has on their website?

http://www.tbyrne.com/truckcatalog.html

They have if for $95 with the Yank converter GP that ends today. At least I would save on shipping.

Flyer,

I just read your other two threads about your experiences with installing your TransGo kit. Man, you are scaring the out of me. So even though TransGo includes a video, they don't say anything about the washers being for worn trannys...sheesh! I was already to tear into this thing but now I am nervous.

It's somewhat scary when you start taking pieces out, but the instructions are VERY easy. Anybody could do it.

It really isn't that big of a deal. Just don't use those spacers, set them aside incase you do ever need them. It's really an easy thing to do, just take your time and double check your work.
