Well, it finally went away on me. It started this morning with 4th slipping a bit under load and then this afternoon 3rd and 4th completely went. I drove 50 miles in second gear doing 50-55mph hoping the freaking motor wouldn't explode.

I know a few of you have blown up transmissions so what's the cause for the missing 3rd and 4th gears. It drives fine in 1st and 2nd but, will not catch in third or fourth. It will shift into those gears but, free revs like its in neutral. BTW, fluid is fine.

What's the cheapest way outta this? I've been thinking REAL hard lately about getting rid of this truck for a newer truck and REALLY don't want to put a ton of money in this trans.

Anybody got a hookup for a cheap 4L60E?

thats a bummer, if your geting rid of it like i did the cheapest place i could find a tranny was the local junk yard, they charged me $550 for a 4wd 4l60e with a 3 month warenty and no core charge.

Try the junkyard for a trans if you are going to dump it....

Third and forth went out on mine and it was just the clutches...

Yeah, I think I'll check the junkyards out. That way I can keep this one for a core.

I think the truck knew I was thinking of getting rid of it so it blew the tranny.

You smoked up your 3-4 clutch pack. You have 2nd gear as it is the 2-4 apply band only. If you would have tossed the band you would have lost 2nd and 4th. 1st is in a different drum.

Yeah go the junkyard route. What do you have inmind for a new rig? I have seen SS truck for $30K after rebates here...

I MIGHT wait until the chrome wheel option is available to get a SS. I have the truck going in for a trans rebuild Monday so I might as well drive it for a while longer. It will be getting demodded though.

The junkyards wanted to much for used transmissions around here so I just am going to get it pulled, rebuilt, reinstalled. Man this sucks.

Heh, join the club...remember my servo fiasco (sp?) months back? I'd rather have put some stall in my truck instead of getting bent by a towing company. Bad stuff always happens. You just getting a cheapo rebuild or what?

You could get those SS wheels you got now chromed and be a step up on everyone...

Well I had that problem before. It just happened on my vette and its the clutch packs. Did it 4 times on my truck and I was blowing the teeth completely off the drum. Good luck either way. I hate transmissions
