Default ratios

Every vehicle with a stock converter and a 700R4/4L60E will experience this to some degree.
would 2.66-1.50 be any better?

Yes, those ratios would be better, but as I've mentioned before - changing planetary sets in an electronic trans like a 4L60E or a 4L80E can only work if the Computer (PCM, TCU, etc) that's controlling it can be configured for the gear ratio constants. Without that ability the computer will interpret the ratio difference as slippage and throw codes. If we were talking about a 700R4 or a TH400 then there would be no problem at all.

Spend the extra $50 on a B&M supercooler...

This is a very, very interesting thread for me.

My 2nd gear just went out and I am looking to have my transmission rebuilt.

I sometimes tow a small car (3500lbs) and am curious about transmission upgrades, but I simply cannot do something that will compromise the reliability of the transmission ...

Any suggestions? At this point, I am seriously considering a stock-rebuild.

thanks,
Chris

would need a tranny cooler and i agree i have a 3k converter and wish i would have went higher so once you get one you will want a bigger one doesnt matter what size you get . i recommend the GM coolers i have heard they are the easiest to install and you cant go wrong with GM especially if someone has to work on it and starts snoopin around
