Default Truck almost burned.....

My fire extinguisher saved my *** on Saturday night. Went over to my GF's house and went inside and sat down, heard a loud pop and my alarm went off in the parking lot. Went outside and saw smoke coming from under my hood, ran over and opened it up and saw the area by my turbo on fire

Best I can figure is that the breather I had on my oil cap was saturated with oil and too close to the turbo and ignited. The breather and cap were burned/melted more than anything else in there. Damage was relatively minimal - it roasted a decent portion of the hood insulation, burned through a plug wire and the oil feed line for the turbo and took out a vacuum line. The oil cap had come off and now I have extinguisher down inside my valve cover, that's gonna be fun to clean up.

Anyway, I was extremely lucky that the pop set off the alarm and that I had an extinguisher, otherwise it may have been too late to do anything by the time I found the fire.

Damn I do not know what I would do looking at my truck burning, my initial response would be to just freezer for whatever reason in total disbelief that it is really burning

Nice time to mention to other members that you need to ask your insurance rep if your mods are covered or not. Getting an appraisal to cover those "extra" items is often cheaper than you think and worth every penny.

So, were you able to fix it and get it running then? Any other problems noticed yet?
