I used LT1 fans. All it took to install was 3 brackets made out of 1/8" thick x 3/4" wide flat steel and one- 1/4" nut and bolt. Got a wiring harness from Allen, and I have it run off the PCM. The install took about 2 hrs. It looks good and works like it was factory.

Cost:
LT1 fans off ebay = $125
Harness = $90
Steel = $4
5/16 rubber hose = $5

I posted some pics of my lt1 fan and harness install in this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203851

I've got the flex-a-lite 282s on my 6.0L radiator. The VSC has performed flawlessly on mine for a long time now.

The FALs are nice fans.

There are 2 harnesses available. A 2-relay harness for about $49 or $59 and a 3-relay harness for $89.

I got the 3 relay. Worth the money? YES.

I have that same 3 relay set up. I am curious how Allen's set up looks. Can you post pics of it or email them to me at shark_g@yahoo.com

THe Hayden thing you're talking about is actually a nice piece, but it is WAAYYYY to skimp[y for these hefty fans. I'm using it on my fan system to switch for the low temp and A/C relay, either or for the low speed and the PCM for high speed.

Used as the only method of controller, yes, it would most certainly suck a big one!
