Default true dual or single exhaust??

well I wanna change me exhaust now before I swap in my 6.0 but I had some questions...right now it is true dual with no x pipe and 2.25...the current mufflers are flowmasters and they exit right behind the rear tires...

so I was going to re-do the exhaust myself but I was thinkin of putting a y-pipe on it instead or keeping it true dual(to help keep cost down and easier fab) I was just gonna run off the headers 2.5s into the y and 3" outlet to a 12" or 14" magnaflow and just dumped before the rear tire...is there any real benifit to true dual with an x pipe?

I was just going to get universal stuff from summit, is there any other companies with good products as well...thanks for the input

The benefit of true-duals is when you are pumping so much that you'd need a 4" or more single to get the air out.

How extreme are you going with your 6.0? Are you looking for more top end or bottom/mid end performance?

sorry I should have posted that...Im just gonna do a little head work with a mildish cam...Im going for a great street truck to be driven daily so more bottom end...

my only thing is trying to get everything to fit properly...Im not doubting myself but when buying universals stuff it makes this hard...like say the x pipe or y pipe(depending which route I go)is 4 inchs wide and my cross over pipe is 3.5...make this a bitch...but I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it...

Take it from me - I have the OBX long tube headers for a 4.8/5.3L on my 6L. They bolted up perfectly to my catback. There's great clearance on everything and since I know you are doing a build similar to mine, let me tell you, the single 3.5" catback coming off the y-pipe is nowhere near close enough to choke my motor up.

ok thats what I thought...I have the same headers as you but I just didnt know if there was a big benifit to true dual...Im sure if I put a charger on it or something then maybe it would be worth my time...thanks for the input!

either 2.5" duals or 3.5+ single will be more than enough for a mild 6.0

i am dual 2.5" still losing about 20 hp through the exhaust. i actually gained 21 rwhp from opening the cutout, i figure a great exhaust would still lose 10+ .... either way, 3.5" single is more than enough for that setup.
