Default TSP '03 Duramax: 416.9 RWHP & 747.8 RWTQ

Our 48' enclosed trailer is on the way, and there was no way that my 6.0L could pull it, so we upgraded to an '03 Chevy 2500HD crew cab SB Duramax diesel. It's illegal for us to own a vehicle and not modify it, so we installed an Edge tuner on it. Man did this truck come to life! It baselined bone-stock with 305.5 RWHP and 527.6 RWTQ. We think that the RWHP number is skewed from the higher altitude (3,300') vs. dynoing at sea-level. A stock Duramax normally puts down 250-260 RWHP.

The tuner we're trying is the Edge with Attitude and in-cab monitor. It allows for full adjustability inside the truck, and you can monitor the exhaust gas temperature and psi of boost. You can also adjust throttle response, and it even has a 0-60 and 1/4-mile timer! Needless to say, it's a fun toy.

Here are all of the numbers from bone-stock to level 5.

stock: 305.5 RWHP 527.6 RWTQ
level 1: 325.3 RWHP 636 RWTQ
level 2: 332.4 RWHP 644.7 RWTQ
level 3: 349.6 RWHP 666.3 RWTQ
level 4: 383.8 RWHP 710.6 RWTQ
level 5: 416.9 RWHP 747.8 RWTQ

Duramax Dyno Sheet

FYI, all runs were made in 4th gear (1:1 ratio). The next mod will be a Magnaflow 4" cat-back exhaust system to help reduce the EGT's. It's debatable as to if cat-backs are really adding any horsepower on the Duramax trucks, so we'll strap her back down once it's installed later this week.

If you're interested in an Edge tuner, feel free to e-mail or call us. You can buy it with or without the monitor, with "Edge Attitude" (level 5 for 125 HP! gain!) or without, etc. We also carry various cat-back systems, so let us know what you're looking for and we'll get you a price.

Thanks!

Trevor

ZF or Allison tranny.I have Edge Hot Juice and have run 14.88 spinning damn near all the way down the track in 4 high.750 rwtq moves my 7300 lb crewcab real nice.I never dynoed mine.I took my exhaust off at the downpipe and did'nt see any improvement.I know you are in the business of moving aftermarket products but IMO the stock exhaust flows quite well.I doubt anyone will see a gain and the $800-$1200 for a system is insane in my view.Nice #s,take that beast to the track. You will have a HUGE smile on your face when you outrun stock mustangs and IROC-Zs in a diesel3/4 ton pickup :p I will improve on my underachieving ET in the cool Fall weather.

422 SS - I have the Allison trans. We are not looking to add the cat-back for added horsepower. I agree that the stock muffler flows pretty well. We're adding the Magnaflow to reduce the EGT's. If it adds any power that's just a bonus. I forgot to add that you can also adjust the shifts so that it will not pull fuel out on the shifts. That's a huge ET gain by itself! It feels pretty awkward when you're on level 4 or 5 and it pulls fuel to shift. It almost feels like it's bucking. I'll definitely have it at the track this weekend!

The added bonus with this truck is that I got 21 MPG doing 75 MPH this past weekend on a road trip.

I would end up shooting myself, especially when we're towing the trailer! That would be LOUD!

BTW, it's only the systems like Borla that are really expensive. I'm going to put a Magnaflow XL Performance system on my truck, and we sell it for $439.99. It has an aluminized muffler, stainless tubing, and a 1-year warranty. They do offer their Performance system that has a stainless steel muffler, stainless steel tubing, stainless hangers, and a 5" polished stainless steel tip with a lifetime warranty. That system sells for $709.99. I'm going to get the XL system and just add a 4" tip.

Darn you Trevor. I knew that you'd never stick a cam in your 6L truck, several of us here have been waiting for before and after numbers. Oh well. Congrats on the NEW truck.

well trevor we JUST put on the edge Hot juice Box and i believe it is the same as your unit (ofcourse we dont have the in cab monitor). it is level 1-4 with level 4=125rwhp / 300rwtq. is this the same thing? i know exactly what you mean by the level 4 defuel. is that going to quit? it isnt there on level 2 much. i notice a HUGE increase in midrange and top end power already and this truck isnt broken in at all. ours is an 03 D/A combo like yours. your dyno-jet numbers look very high stock. most guys are making 240-245 rwhp and i thought 430-440 rwtq stock i thought. but most are still making over 720 rwtq with the edge hot box like i have. over 2000 rpms and you can feel that turbo hammer! nice passing, esp in the 70-90 mph passing situations. makes it fun to drive an auto diesel (didnt think i would ever say that). keep us informed and looking forward to when this monitor will be available to the rest of us. also what kind of boost are you making? over 20 psi?
