A friend of mine left me his Tahoe will he is out of the country. What should I do to tune it up.
It 86k miles on it. I think it's an 01' model.

This is what I have thought of so far:
Spark plugs NGK TR55??
PCV valve
clean TB
change tranny fluid and filter

what else?

It sound like you allready have the plan.TR55 is the stock plug on the Tahoe.You might check for bad plug wires and replace the airfilter.

Just out of question, when are you suppose to change the PCV valve?

Take it off and shake it if it rattles its ok. They are cheap I'd say go ahead and replace it.

What is the model number for the transmission in the Tahoe 5.3's?
The autoparts store needs to know to get the right filter.

What's the best way to get the pan off? It hangs up on the shift kick down cable bracket, and it's a real bitch to get to the bolts to remove it that bracket. Is it even necessary to remove the pan completely?

I was able to get the filter out by dropping the front of the pan.

Maybe fuel filter too. And differential fluid if you get bored. On that bracket, I just bent it out of the way with a pry bar. Now I don't ever have to worry about it
