Even still, they had the HD frame. I tried finding a factory 1500-frame 4L80-E crossmember and they don't exist. It's the HD moniker that's misleading.

Here are a couple of threads I read/posted about some questions I had when trying to source stuff for the 80-e swap:

think hard about the 2wd vs 4wd thing. making power seems to be a lot easier than geting traction. even with the right suspension in a 2wd i dont think you will hook up without some slicks and a burnout. if you are ok with that then the 2wd would probably be good.

what route you go all depends on how much money and skills you have. the 2500hd rc seems like a good plan, i thought hard about that one. just pay someone to shorten it a little and slap a short box on there and you would be ready for a turbo. having the 6.0/tranny/strong rear/strong 4wd parts if you go 4wd would save some hassle for sure. if you go 4wd the front end in one of those will accept a locker.

Why not go for a 1500 hd Crew Cab and then go after Parish
A bigger heavier truck w/ 4l80e, 6.0 and a back seat and see if you can make him your wannabee

wow i'm sure digging this one up. i just realized i had some questions. if i go with the 2500 with 6.0 and 4l80e i want it to be 4x4 and extended cab. its not gonna be a total drag truck so i want some space. so i'm pretty sure i can fab up the exhaust manifolds and all the plumbing and exhaust myself, but tuning i need help on. which injectors do i need and where can i get them? fuel pump? plugs? where can i get a turbo tune, does nelson do them. if i get them to tune if will i still need to mess with a fmu or will that be taking care of with the nelson tune. and timing how do i change that and what should it be changed to.
now how much boost can i run on pump and what kind of power can i expect from a pretty much stock 6.0 on pump. what are the limits as far as boost and hp on a stock 6.0. thanks alot for you replys so far.

hp tuners will be good for all your tunning needs if you have a dyno near by they may be able to tune it for you. i just got the 44lb injectors from the 8.1 from www.racetronix.com for mine i guess there suppose to be good for 500 rwhp. haven't figure out which pump for my 04 yet. i don't really think you'll need a fmu. timming you can change with hptuners and just set it on the dyno it depends on all kinds of things like how much boost, compression, fuel type.......

I would get a 2500 or 2500HD if i had plans for high power. Just saves all the time and frustration of swaping transmission, rear-end, transfer-case etc.

Here is a link to a 2500ld for sale. Might not be a good pic, because it has a body lift, but as you can tell its frame is much smaller.
