U-Joint/Driveshaft question
Hi all,
My U-joints are pretty much worn out on my 99 Silverado 1500 4x4, so they're about due for a replacement. I was thinking - the driveshaft is all rusty and looks like crap - so I thought while I am at it, maybe I can freshen up the whole works. I plan on lifting the truck sooner or later, and it would be kinda nice to have a decent looking driveshaft.
So, I have a couple of options:
1. Replace it with an aftermarket one - maybe something lightweight and/or stronger and better looking - Does anybody have any recommendations?
2. Clean up and paint the stocker - would painting it throw it off balance or cause any other problems?
3. Live with the driveshaft and just replace the U-joints. Any recommendations on high quality U-joints?
Thank you for any thoughts/suggestions!
Travis

Re: U-Joint/Driveshaft question
I know Spicer are one of the best U-joints made, but I don't know if it's a good idea to replace the driveshaft. Carbon fiber is expensive. Painting the old one is probably fine with spraypaint. Be careful not to remove excess metal when getting the rust off. If you are carefull, it should be an alright project to do.

Re: U-Joint/Driveshaft question
I second the spicer joints, I've got em on mine, and they've been threw hell and back, just be sure to keep them greased like any other. There's a dealer in Houston that sells them, or you can get them online. You could get an aluminum drive shaft. Not as expensive as the carbon, still looks sweet, or get your stocker chromed out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
