Default upcoming lq9 swap

So my trusty 02 Silvy has recently passed 202,000 miles. Over the last 20,000 miles she has started to burn oil and more recently a small amount of coolant has dissapeared. There is no evidence of coolant and oil mixing together and no other signs of something going awry.

I have settled on the 05+ lq9 swap to solve any future problems. And now that I have read through the last 5 years of lq9 swap posts there are still a few things left unanswered.

I have an 06 4l60e that I put in the truck last year with about 10k miles. Something popped in it so I put the old one back in. I plan to have that rebuilt to handle the 6.0.

Does the flywheel change between the 5.3 and 6.0 if staying with the 4l60e?

Will the 6.0 ECU w/DBW work with the 5.3 TB?

Does the ECU need to be VIN or vehicle specific?

And for those that have done the 6.0 swap in an ECSB truck, what kind of mpg's are you getting?

Thanks

I would recommend just getting your PCM that you currently have in the truck tuned for the LQ9 by Charlie Wheatley.

I am getting 12.8 mpg w/ LQ9 in ecsb 2wd.

Trans and the 6.0 flywheel should bolt right up to your tranny

reuse your flywheel and intake assy. have the pcm tuned for the 6.0 specs. my swap was in a crew cab. i lost about 1 mpg coming from a 5.3 with a tr220 in it to a lq4 with a tr224. i just had it tuned this weekend so i am hoping to pick the mpg back up.

GMCtrk,
do you have any other mods or is it still stock?

I'm still averaging 20mpg but "I'm all highway"

I don't know that sending out my pcm for a tune would be the best. I plan to do the swap in a day as it is my DD.

Just the 93 octane tune from Charlie, and the TB bypass "mod"

The LQ9 actually does better than the 4.8 on the highway, becuase it never needs to downshift. I got well over 23 with the 6.0 (3.42 gears) on a long highway trip.

Also, I'm pretty sure the PCM has to have your VIN on it. Charlie will send you a tuned PCM. You stick it in and the then send him back your stock PCM for a $100 refund (or keep your stock one with no refund).

Do you run the 93 tune by choice or does it need 93? I've read other posts, not always correct, that they can run on 87. What is the TB bypass mod? 23 mpg would be nice.

Does a .5 cr bump over the 5.3 make that big of a difference?

sweet I'm liking what I'm seeing, I plan on swaping out the 4.8 for a 6.0 very soon.

It can run on 87, but not as much timing, so less power. I run 93 by choice.

TB bypass mod is where you reroute cooling lines so that they don't go through the Tb and heat it up (heating up the air in the TB theoretically decrease power).

I filled up my truck with 93 today for $92.00. And I've been using 93 lately anyway so I guess it wouldn't be any change there. And I average about 1500 - 2000 miles per week so the cost adds up really, really fast. So having the option to run 87 would be nice.

Any idea how much power loss? And if it would hurt the motor in the long run? pre-det or other issues

Sharky,
you'll have to change up your wiring harness to go from the 4.8 to the 6.0. Speartech can do that for you.

i just did some quick rough math. If my mpg stays at or about the same and the price of oil stays the same, it is about $100 difference per week for me to run 93 vs 87.

Something to think about.
