UPD intake dyno results
Yeah, call me the dyno *****. <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
Installed the UPD intake on the truck. Made some baseline runs and it was at 249rwhp consistantly. Added UPD intake and it went to 252.8rwhp. Didn't pick up anything until it hit 4200rpm. Decided the lower airbox was really choking it up so pushed out the big oval peice since it snaps in and out and did a pull and now its at 254.5rwhp.(all pulls are being made in second gear)
Only other mods are 87 octane HPP tuning, descreened MAF. They say the UPD intake is supposed to pick up alot more at the track then on the dyno...can't wait to find out Weds! <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

Re: UPD intake dyno results
I've tried all the configurations with the stock airbox like no filter, no lower box with a filter etc and nothing helped with the stock intake. I might try a pull without the filter on the UPD sometime.

Mark,
What about cutting the bottom of the box out, and then cutting into the inner fender? I did this on my truck, and you can't see it from the outside or anything. That way you're not getting air from the restrictive factory holes.

Here are mine 2 months apart last year (K&N FIPK vs UPD). That was the ONLY change between dynos. Warmer temps on the better dyno even! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
DYNO 1 K&N FIPK
DYNO 2 UPD & 3" Hole in bottom of box

Re: UPD intake dyno results
So anyone got pics of the whole I need to push out of my airbox? I have an 03 so should it have that plastic piece to push out?
My UPD was a real pain to wiggle on so I dont want to pull it off until I know exactly whats up.
Also what are the odds of water getting tossed up through this hole in the air box, IF I open it up?
Hey Smoke_ur_5.0 did you see those hp gains after pushing out the bottom air box hole USING extra duct tubing or just the factory stuff? I am thinking that some cheap aluminum ducting could be used to make a real cold air intake.
I'm sure people out there have already done this, but just wondering what type of gains if any have been seen.

Marineblue03: you can drop $12 at Home Depot and make a ram air kit like I did. It was raining all day today and I didn't get any water up in the air box. I've got some pics in my sig just to give you an idea... it's pretty self explanatory though.

Re: UPD intake dyno results
thanks for the mention of your pics page!
That aluminum tubing is exactly what I had in mind. In fact I have made a few cold air intakes on some import cars already with that stuff.
Anyway I plan to run over to home depot sometime before friday, which will be my next day at the track! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />
