Default update to oil pressure issue.

I have been driving the truck with the oil pressure gauge pegged. Normal temps, normal everything else, until tonight. I have a new oil pressure sending unit that I planned on installing tomorrow night. Heres the new twist.

Now, at idle, the pressure gauge is pegged. Above 1K rpms, oil pressure drops to ZERO . When I get off the throttle, and the rpms drop below 1K, the pressure goes up to 80 psi again.

can someone tell me what the hell is going on? I am going to change the sending unit tonight, if I have no change, I am not going to work in the morning, and will change the oil, no change, new pump over the weekend. Other than that, I have no ideas.

Anyone?

All right, I have been outside for a while, haven't changed the sending unit yet, I don't see a way to do it without pulling the intake. I can't even get my hand on the piece, much less get a wrench on it. I had the truck idling for about 10 minutes, no noises, nothing. The truck has oil pressure, I am sure of it. I will swap the switch on Sat. morning.

Before I do that, is there any way to test the switch (or the gauge cluster), to verify the broken part before the swap? I wish I knew someone with a silverado, I just switch bezels, none of my friends have any class.

Know anyone with HPTuners scanner? Or if EFILive has a like function. Should be able to log oil pressure. The gauges are known to go bad.

If you let it idle for 10 mins, you either have oil pressure or a destroyed engine...

got it all fixed up. Replaced the sending unit, works just like it did before. Glad it wasn't the gauge cluster.

Cool deal, glad you got it figured out! Were you able to replace the sending unit without removing the intake?

if it's not the sending unit, it's the stepper motor on the cluster . . . $3 dollar part

Not HP Tuners. It won't log oil pressure because oil pressure isn't read by the PCM. The signal goes straight to the cluster, I think. It might be the BCM. But not the PCM.
