Thank you @RedXray , that is all really great info! I know the 6 will work on the 4, but I didn't like the idea of the open holes letting oil sit on the head gasket. Maybe I can machine some plugs and pop em in the heads...

TSP has 6 bolt PRCs in stock but they are $3100 after delivery

Flotek heads would be a good way to spend ~1500 and destroy my motor in the process lol

The GMPP heads were by far the best deal. Sad day. I am going to troll LStech and Facebook. Also trying to find some local heads to send out for porting

Fortunately I am not in a rush, so I can spend some time to save some money. I still don't what cam I want, because decision paralysis... or something

So... do these include valves? and if not, why are they listing "5 angle valve job" as being included?? hmmmm

congratulations you're now "old school"
Im 37 and have rebuilt a many carburetors. Ive never been good at adjusting them but thats what old timers with the flat head screwdriver in their pocket are for. Ill tune their EFI and i bring them carburetored cars to tinker with.

Cause the valve seats have been cut on 5 angles...

The unused holes hang over the edge of the block. If you were to drop a BB down the hole it would fall through to the floor so no oil can puddle there. My only concern was the bosses contacting my primaries but in the pic below you can see the tubes easily clear the bosses. If you look close you can see the head gasket rivet... the holes are far away from the gasket.

Put fake cutoff bolts in the extra holes and some will you have a LSX block

would be a first for me to see the seat cut at more than 2 angles, for any engine family

how I've seen 5 angle described before was 3 on the valve and 2 on the seat

@arthursc2,

The SUM-8711R1 makes 480 whp in a stock LS3. It will get you to your power goal with ease in a 408. Going with some good aftermarket heads like the Trickflow 255's would make that even better. We wouldn't hesitate to use it in a combo like yours for your planned use. It's not going to have a problem to run out to 6,500 and more than likely would run out to 7,000+ if you wanted. With a stock LS3 and un-milled heads, PTV was .076" on the intake and .096" on the exhaust. We'd recommend checking PTV regardless just to make sure there won't be any surprises. Make sure to get a good dual spring to keep the valvetrain happy. Something like the Trickflow TFS-2500286 .660" duals will pair well with the 8711R1.

You'll want some upgraded pushrods. With the 8711R1, we typically see a 7.425" pushrod used. Things can vary so we always recommend measuring for pushrod length before purchasing pushrods. If you don't already have a pushrod length checker we offer the Trickflow TFS-9501. For pushrods, we recommend a minimum of a 5/16" Chromoly pushrod with a .080" wall. You can typically find a set of 16 for around $100. From there you can get into a thicker wall or larger diameter pushrod. For excellent stability and strength check out our 11/32" HDR pushrods with a .120" wall. These have 25% less stress and 28% less deflection than a typical 5/16" x .080" wall Chromoly pushrod.

We checked into the lead time for the TFS 255 heads. Per Trickflow they are around 8 weeks out on those at this time.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance. We'll be happy to help!

@Summitracing Thank you for the info! I think the TFS255 are winning right now, but the cam I am currently wet over is the Comp 54-473-11

I can't find any dyno's on the power difference from 11° to 15°, but I know I gain PTV when I go with lesser angles, which means more cam. But also, the -4cc have valve reliefs, where as the LS3's do not- so I don't feel too concerned there either. If 11 makes 15-20hp more right off the bat, then its a no brainer- but I think thats an optimistic assumption, and I have seen no data to support power gains, simply more PTV clearance

To throw another wrench in this plan, I am even considering cathedral CNC heads with a FAST. Its only money right? and luckily cathedral stuff is coming down significantly in price as of late

No They are a bare head.

You can cut the Valve job on the head at anytime. You just need to make sure you purchase the correct size valves and that they lap in correctly.

okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Because I like to do things the hard way and I really absolutely must dry sump this car, I finally made a decision that makes financial sense

My current heads are going to TSP for CNC porting in Nov. Its about $1050 plus I have to ship the heads to them in the fist place, so maybe $1150

This will put me in the 12.2 to 12.5:1 range, so the car will get a flex sensor and run e85. Which is actually great because I will probably see close to 550whp as a result. I have 6 stations that sell E, and with a flex sensor, we can do 91 as well- for when I can't find E

E will help on the track too. I have the injector to run it, but I am not sure the OE pump will support 550 on E, but only 1 way find out: google

Anyone know a good PTV calculator? Asking for a friend
