V6 to V8 swap ?'s.....
My buddy has a 2002 Chevy with a V6 that he want's to put my stock 4.8 engine in. I'm wondering how much of a pain in the *** it is to do this. Any info would be appreciated....
Thanks,
Austin

Well first off he would need the complete motor, intake to wiring harness. He can have his current 4.3 pcm reflashed to the 4.8 tune. He would need a new exhaust setup
the conversion would also require new engine mounts and registers(about 280.00 at the dealer) The 4.8 harness will have to be modded to support a couple different pin assignments between the v6 and v8 (current performance wiring can do this) He would need a new flexplate for the tranny to work, any 4.8, 5.3 flexplate will work. The fuel lines are hard and they are different between the v6 and v8 but this is an easy fix, just use some steel braided fuel line and connect after the fuel filter. If the current setup on the 4.8 is drive by wire he will need to put on a cable driven throttle body. He will also need a new intake tube.
Not too bad of a swap, its not impossible many have done it.

Yep, pretty much. Frame mounts and a little wiring. The Suspension is the same. The tranny has a slightly different Bell Housing but will bolt up and work. rear end, fuel pump all the same, radiator has a different p/n but will work.
Its more difficult than a normal v8 to v8 swap and cost more but its worth it.
If anyone considers this swap i recomend just going to a 6.0. If your gonna do it DO IT BIG!

DLH- how much do you think the total cost would be, considering he might be able to find some of the stuff at a junk yard for fairly cheap. Thanks for the info....

As for the guy getting the free 4.8.... if its free, id use it to save money but if i was gonna spend money on the swap, id do a 6.0.
