Default Vmax DD cam

My dad has a 08 vmax(6.0 and 4.10s) and I've done a few mods to give it some pep. Has LTs,intake, exhaust, and tune. He wants a lil more, I've done some readin on the 212/218 cam and how it's pretty DD friendly. My question is whats the difference in a 112 lsa or 114 lsa? Isn't it the 112 provides more down low torque? And from what I've read, the ls6 yellow springs would be fine with this setup. Also would he need to
Upgrade his converter? He tows durin huntin season, don't know if that affects anything.

I'm a cam newb guys, thanks for the help. Just need to clear some things up

Thats a good cam choice but I think a closer to straight split would be better for down low tq. Id recommend a circle d 2600 converter and something like a 212/215.

What size tires is he running?

He's runnin a 33x12.5x20 toyo mt on it...so the 212/215 would be a better choice? If possible, could he stay with the stock converter and not lose any down power low? That's his biggest point, that he doesn't want to mess with his converter, just the cam itself

Mainly he wants a cam that he doesn't have to change the converter if necessary and one that pulls from 1k up to 4-4500 rpm and a lil lope to it. I guess kinda like a sleeper cam but you know it's there once the pedal is hit

I'd rather swap a converter than a cam and springs any day... helluva lot easier... A converter will help get the big truck moving...

That small of a cam in a 6.0 will have no issue with loss of low end power... especially with a good tune on it.

With those tires it needs a small converter. It will make a HUGE difference. I've got basically the same truck and setup, I plan on running a 3200 with a big trans cooler. I use my truck for towing and the deer lease too. That cam from sdpc with a 2600 would wake that truck up a ton. Your dad won't even notice the 2600, my wife drove my last truck all the time and it had a 2600 in it.

So the cam that charcoal03 recommended and a 2600 stall would be a perfect setup for it?

Yes that would be perfect for what he wants to do. Keep in mind though that we've got the L76 engine which has the DOD lifters. In order to run that cam you WILL have to pull the heads and swap out the lifters for regular style lifters and lose DOD function. Which with those tires it probably never went into DOD mode anyway.

What kind of mileage is he seeing out his truck with the current mods(HWY and what speed)? My truck unfortunately came with the 3.73s and Im looking to do a gear swap soon but theres not too many people running bigger tires like us.

Where are you located? Is that Highlands Texas?
