to fit in a pre 99 their would have to be alot of changes to alot of different things. It's really just not worth it to do. The ls6 for a 99+ is a straight drop in motor, all you ahve to do is connect the engine to the tranny really. the computers are the same and so is everything else. Alot of people here go with the 6.0 truck engines but I am looking into more of a beefed up ls1 to save some weight and throw on some ported and polished heads with a good sized cam and probably run my 5.3 heads to raise compression. Also will have to upgraded transmission for the power upgrade stall for better performance with that cam. but the ls1 weight is about 80lbs lighter then the 5.3 liter so it takes a little weight off the front. so many wways to go the only thing restricting me is the wife and money. Oh thank god you got rid of the rice.

Yep, the LQ4 is only a direct swap in the 99+ trucks. Any of the sponsors to the right can help you with parts for it.
If you get a LQ4 make sure it is a 2001+ model because the '99-'00 engines had a different crankshaft to mate up with the 4L80E transmission without a spacer. This makes them NOT a direct swap for a 4.8 or 5.3.
What kind of times it runs depends on what model truck you put it in really. 2wd or 4wd, regular cab or extended cab, short bed or long bed, 1500 or 2500....you get the idea.

yea i know about 350's but i would much rather have something newer, but with the lq9 swap can i have 4wd? and can it be a m5 or m6 or does have to be auto? also is there anyplace to buy a 99+ v8 truck with a broken motor, or just a shell. Also are parts for lq9 interchangable with other gen III's like cams and head packages. thanks so much
