Default Want TBSS performance in 02 Yukon body!

Wow - what a rocket those TBSS's are. Took one for a spin tonight and was totally impressed with everything ..........except the puny 67.5 inch ride height. I want to stay higher up so will stick with my 02 Yukon and try and emulate the performance (may be tough to do those things are bloody rockets - think it wouldl make my Maggie Denali XL look sick!)

I don't think slapping a Maggie on the 5.3 is going to get me to 0-60 in 5.7s. I saw a complete TBSS engine and tranny on e-bay for sale (12 miles or so) with bidding sitting at $6000. I would imagine that combo could be made to fit into the 02 Yukon fairly easily. Or not. Either way, probably looking at 10,000 once pay speed shop to do transplant.

Tempted to just tell speed shop they have 10k to make my truck quick as snot, and see what they come up with. Probably have to factor in some tranny rebuild work to take extra power as well.

Why in the hell could that TBSS not be lowered and still ride 72 inches or so. I swear, with GM blowing them out below cost, and 0 percent financing, and most importantly, SPOUSAL approval to PULL the TRIGGER, and then the damn thing turns out to be a little shrimp.

So disappointing. And really pissed at the internet info that got my hopes up stating that the height for a 2006 TBSS was 72.5inches!

Enough venting!

So on this note, I assume that the LS1/LS6 type engine can be swapped into my Yukon. How much should I expect to pay for this type of engine. Ditto for install?

Any input is welcome. If can be done for under 10,000 likely my best option.

Thanks

IMO just get a built 408 stroker/new tranny rather than doing a TBss motor swap. i wish my poor *** had 10k in extra disposable income lol...

Well lets be clear, it's not disposable, but it is a need. Life is short

So what do you think I might be able to talk the local speedshops into for a price for a built 408 stoker and new tranny. 10K? Less? Will be in the 400 hp range then?

Thanks for that suggestion, much appreciated. Wish I could do this wrenching myself but two left hands.

You can either go 402 Alum or 408 iron...Basically the same price... shortblocks are 4250 usd. Heads are either $1400 for stage 3 cnc'd LS6 heads, or $2400 for AFR cnc'd heads.

So a long block with LS6 CNC heads is 7450usd. If you want AFR heads add $1000, and add 250 for morel lifters (quiet valvetrain and gain 10-15hp).
Pull/Install new motor is $1000, 500 to tune, my 4l60e trannys are $2000, so it should be something similar for the 4l80e.

Power will depend on the cam used and how much lump you want.

I also have a special on callies 4.125 cranks right now... Usually a 1000dollar upgrade, but now on sale for just a $500 upgrade. I have 2 4.125 cranks left. This would turn the 402 into a 415 and the 408 iron will be a 421. I would suggest you go this route b/c it'll make alot more torque which will help get the yukon to feel more nimble or peppy like a tbss.

Well I have some quotes coming from my local speed shop for two options. The first option is to turn the 5.3 into a 390 with lotsa pop. Option 2 is the 408 stroker. Plus I am looking into sled's prices as well.

I never should have gone for that test drive - now I MUST have the extra power. Such a single minded individual I am. Nice to be in a forum of like minded individuals!

p.s. depending on how this turns out, I have a feeling I am then going to want to get my Blown Denali stroked out as well. Hmmmn - transfer that Maggies to 02 Yukon and get New Maggie 122 for Denali? Hmmmn - divorce would likely be imminent, although the missus did start all of this when she remarked that the 02 Yukon "was a piece of crap" after having to drive it one day (used to the juice on the Blown Denali of course - her DD, mine on evenings and weekends, like a custody battle....)

I did a bunch of them with no problems?? What happened to 1slow??
Years ago One of those 421's made 831rwhp on nitrous in 00 or 01...we used a 6.200 rod so it pushed the piston back up in the bore cause I know there are alot of concerns with piston travel...

So can you help me with the math of having a shipped engine sent out to me then?

Say a 408 SB with AFR heads and callies 4.125 cranks. Looks like 4250+2400+500 = 8150 USD *1.12 or so conversation = approx 9000 Cdn for a 421? Then pay my mech aprox 1000 to re and re? Then another 500 or so for a tune?

So I am up to that magic 10 g I figured on. Plus shipping

Wonder what I would get for my existing 5.3 with 60,000 km (40,000 miles) on it? $1000 maybe? Hopefully enought to offset shipping cost at least

Just educating myself as to ballpark numbers.

Thanks

D
