Default wasting tons of fuel at idle

so my truck on the cluster is shows the amount of fuel used in gallons. what i've noticed is that whenever i'm idling, the amount of fuel used goes by really quick. lets say im at 10 gal used, if idling after about 1 minute itll go to 10.1 another minute or 2 and it goes to 10.2 gal. **** my truck uses less fuel when driving than when idling. truck idle is at 800-850ish my question is, does the cam have to do with the idling and going thru gas quicker? truck is 08 with lq4 228 110lsa cam 80e and boltons. any help is appreciated. btw this fuel used thing on the cluster is accurate since i've done the calculations before.

Do you have a wideband to see how the fuel/air ratio is at idle?

As long as everything is mechanically sound, its likely the tune. I have fixed this problem before by delaying injection timing. Overlap like that will tend to draw unburned fuel out of the exhaust valve for several degrees prior to closing, so some raw fuel can pass straight through the cylinder and not burn at all. This won't affect air fuel ratio because the fuel coming out of the exhaust has no impact on the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. It will smell extremely rich though because of the vaporized gasoline in the exhaust, even though the O2 sensors may not report anything wrong at all.

I might not be understanding what your saying but what I think your saying sounds normal. The main reason a prius does so well on fuel mileage is they shut the gas engine off when the car isnt moving. Your saying your dic still registers fuel usage at idle and it will, the truck is running and your technically getting zero mpg because your not moving. Idle will kill your overall mpg because of this.

No, he's got a fuel flow sensor that calculates the amount of fuel the engine is consuming. Sounds like a tune issue and the wideband just didn't register properly.
