I have an S&B and i like it. It looks clean under the hood. I didnt notice any performance gains really and my MPG stayed the same.

Does that sound right? Should i have gained one or the other?

Most gains will be in the upper RPM range. You pretty much are not going to feel it too much. That's where most of the aftermarket CAI kit manufacturers get their 5-10% gain in HP numbers over stock. I would more like 5% or less gains at most on most applications using basic bolt on parts.
It's kind of like it's a first must do mod. It just becomes a normal routine mod that almost every performance enthusiast does.

I like my Volant with the air ram tube, it gave me noticeable horsepower and it helps a lot on the gas mileage! check:

if you want a sealed box system get the Volant.. i got that because with open filters and the dirt roads around here they got dirty to dang fast

AEM is a nice open filter also

either of those would work fine but they all do the same job

Either way, my Volant system, with sealed box makes no difference in how dirty my air filter gets. If you have the ram air like I do, it will get really dirty really fast.
I on the other hand did not notice a gain what so ever in mpg. It did however also take away some of my initial low end torque. Though it gain more in the mid and upper rpms.
If someone actually had dyno chart numbers of a O.E. intake vs. an aftermarket CAI kit on a relatively stock truck, then I would believe their claims.
