Default what do you think????

So ive had my 04' 5.3 RCSB for a while now and have only done the CAI and had the corsa exhaust on it being an SSC package(also has factory 20's if that makes any differance). Ive been doing a lot of research on the site and want to get a cam, i have a set of LS2 heads with little use already. I dont really want to do stall but am really considering it making it better for cam selection. every once in a while i will tow a trailer, like a couple times a year. i had a LPE GT2-3 in my other truck but want to go a lot more aggressive. I would like to keep the rpm around 6000 being a truck and having 373 gears

What cam would be good with out the stall?
What cam with a 2600 stall?
How far should I mill the LS2 heads for the 5.3? want higher compression to

Will do all supporting mods like: valve springs/pushrods, LS2 timing chain, ported tb, long tube headers, and i have a tuner. any insight would be great!

you can't really go aggresive and not have a higher stalling torque converter(otherwise we all would).I wouldn't go bigger than a 220/220 with a 2600 converter.

I drove a 224/224 cam with no converter for about 8 months and it SUCKS driving in town. Anything over 30 mph was a blast but under that it was a dog.

i was told i could get up to 220 to idle on stock converter. any thoughts on what to mill the ls2 heads to? i may get them p&p also.

You can get about any cam to idle with a stock TC. The TC doesn't affect idle. However the engine will loose a fair amount of low end torque with a larger cam (might make it tough to get a trailer moving). I wouldn't do a 220 without a stall. 212/218 would probably be a better choice if you are dead set against the stall even tho a small stall would help.

Even on a stock cam a small stall make the truck more fun to drive IMO. Take a look at the Yank TT stalls if you are worried about still being able to tow on ocassion. Just make sure you have plenty of cooler for the transmission and it will be fine. BTW after having my TT3000 for a while now I would consider anything 3000 and under to be a small stall. At least from yank since they are so tight to begin with.

First of all I think you need to drive around with a 3000rpm stall, it really is VERY street-able.

I love my converter, it's easily the best mod I've done, but I could have easily gone bigger and been street-able. I haven't given anybody a ride in my truck (or let them drive it) without them wanting to do at least a 3000 stall...

My cam is perfect without a looser converter (specs in sig), although it would definitely benefit from a mild verter. IMO, these trucks can use a mild converter stock. tdrumms current cam also works well with the factory verter (Vinci 062: 210/218 .551/.551 112), but would also benefit from a higher stall converter. We both have (or had in tdrumm's case) .373 rears.

I think that the Comp 212/218 and a 2600 would be a well matched combo...the 212/218 can get by with the factory stall, but there's alot left on the table there. Just my .02.

well it looks like i may just bite the bullet and do the stall, preferably a 3000. With some of the cams ive seen you guys with do you where are you guys shifting. i saw the tsp228r in a few trucks and wondered how the rpm range was. it is still a truck and could use the lower end and mid range to get it going. obviously the stall helps but i would think you still wouldnt want to rev to 7000 to make power?
any body have any idea on the head milling amount on the LS2 heads for my 5.3.

first off, hello from a fellow Masshole.

you have a 5.3L. the largest cam i'd put in that thing is a 224/224. TSP228 is way too big. if i were you i'd go with a 220/220 and a 3K stall. i have a yank TT3000 that allows you to retain pretty much stock towing capacity. i think it'd be a great combo.
