Yes, parts are interchangable. The ls6 cam is a nice cheap upgrade, will make a power difference.. I wouldn't go putting the ls6 heads on the 4.8 unless you have them milled to bring the comp up on your engine.. Like stated, a tune is going to be the best bang.. But you really should ditch the shortys and get some long tubes on there. If you have some money to spend I would invest in some gears and a posi unit... Between them few mods, you should bust your friend pretty good. Also the big rims are killing you..

yup, before the cam and 34" tires, I was at 24mpg highway, 19-20mpg city on an ext cab 5.3 Z71...it was very nice.
now, untuned, its still about 18 highway, and city sucks. Once tuned, and not running so rich I blow black smoke, It will be close to where it was. The funny thing is I sound like a duramax from the exhaust I built, and I look like one now...haha
An example of how the rockers work is basically multiplying your cam's lift.
I have a 2001 Z06 cam. its a 204/218 .525/.525
with the rockers, its a 204/218 .571/.571...

it is the z06.
there are two different grinds on the c5 zo6
the 01 used a 204/218 525/525 116.5 <mine
the 02-04 used a 204/218 .551/.551 117.5 iirc
the rockers just multiplied the lift via the ratio.
1.7 to 1.85
A cam swap isnt the hardest thing to do, but I did mine with my head swap, and it was super easier to do both IMO.
