Default what kind of times???

ok I have been talking to a local shop about doing a cam, springs, tci 3000 stall, shift kit. Right now I am guesstimating I am running a 14.8-15.1. I have 2o's on the truck with 275/55/r20 goodyears that grip really well. for the cam I will also get a nelson tune since their isn't anyone here that can do it or trust to do it. The cam will be along the lines of 224/224 on 112 lsa or 218/222 on 112 lsa or maybe even the 220 on 112lsa. Which one do you guys think would work best and what times in the 1/4? also will I have any drivability problems. thanks mods in sig.

Sounds similar to what I had on my truck N/A.

I ran the AS&M headers through stock exhaust piping and gutted cats. 226/.535/112 cam and TT3000 stall except I was a 4x4 ext cab and with proper tuning I went 14.2@97mph. My raceweight was 4850lbs so figure out what your truck weighs with you in it and you can probably figure it out within a couple 10ths. My guess is if you can figure out how to hook then mid 13s should be doable but you wont get anywhere near that quick without some slicks. If I tried to launch without 4wd on that setup it was spin city. I made 304rwhp 290rwtq before tuning and I picked up 2-2.5mph after tuning so I feel I either picked up 15-20rwhp or TQ since the dyno.

Here is a video of my only time at the track with that setup and tuning. All my runs were between 14.28 and 14.4 @96-97mph.

F8L 14.28@96.8 MPH

tight thanks, who sells the cam you used and how did it feel on the street? It has to be able to get me to work and back and screwing around for beer runs on weekends. thanks

I knocked almost a second off my ET with a Yank TT3000 and a HPPPIII. I would think your truck should be in the 13's with those mods!!! I also think that a 275/55/20 is too tall for stock gearing on a 2wd truck, even with the 3.73 rear. That tire is 31.9 inches tall.

yeah I know, but I bought my wheels and tires as a package and that's what I have to live with. until I run them bald their staying on their. then I'll get some 285 or 295 out back and 275 up front on 45 sidewall.

Rick @ Synergy Motorsports in Fremont, CA. 510-796-3749 did my cam and tuning. Without tuning the thing wouldn't even idle at all once you put it in gear so tuning is a must! Allen Nelson could tune it mail order for ya as he did the tuning on BLK6.0HDs truck and he has a more radical cam than I do.

Drivability was perfect on that combo except I would get a tiny bit of surge off idle but it could have been cleared up if I wanted to make the 150mile drive to Synergy to correct it but I was too lazy hehehe.

The one cool thing about your tall tires is that you can extend your rev limit to about 6500 or so and change your shift points to run through the 1/4mile in the top of 2nd gear if your mph isn't too high. In my truck I would just barely tap the limiter in 2nd gear at the end of the 1/4 at 97mph.

I hear ya on the tires. Just a FWI, I switched (from my 20" Centerline Lexi's w/285/50/20's) to my 17 inch Escalade wheels with 275/55/17's (went from a 31" tire to a 29" tire) and knocked 3 to 3.5 tenths off of my et. I know weight had something to do with it but some of it was "gear" related. I also agree w/ F8LZ, as I too just clicked the rev limiter in 2nd gear trying to hold it in 2nd in the quarter, and you might be able to go thru the traps in 2nd. I also know that when my truck was in 14.5x trim (small wheels and no spare) I raced a regular cab 5.3 with exhaust only (on the street) and just BARELY beat him....I did spin a bit but it was still hell playing catch up from that point on. I know those RCSB 5.3's run! HARDTOP has one bone stock that ran a 14.6x! Oh well, I gotta have something to haul the whole family around in! Good luck!

thanks, yeah it does pretty good after 2500rpms but it's a dog on the bottom damn tm. when I get my quote for all the parts installed then I will start looking into it more. Also what kind of prices do you think I should pay for all part and labor installed. I will be getting a custom grind cam, 918 springs, shift kit, corvette and billet od servo, 3000 stall from probably tci or a used yank tt3000. I am hoping for consistent 13's when I am done with this. oh also a nelson tune.
