Default What mods to Maximize MPG on 5.3?

I have a 99 Silverado 4x4, 3" lift, 33s, with 3.73 gears. I average about 13-13.5 mpg, and I have a blackbear tune, a k&n intake, and a free flowing exhaust - no cats, no crossover, out glasspacks. I am looking for performance mods that would help mpg. I have read that most people gain like 1 mpg with e-fans. Also probably with some long tube headers I would gain some. Is that true? Other than that is their any other mods that would help my gas mileage?

welcome to PT.net where our second concern is economy

Efans and any other component to free up parasitic loss will help but mods like headers and such will (in the end) only cost you more economy at the price of increased performance. Don't feel bad, I ave ~11mpg but I drive stoplight to stoplight.

Thanks
Yeah I'm a high school student and the gas mileage is killing me because I can't go anywhere. Of course I want to make my truck faster and was wondering if any mods would help in the other catagory. I commute 10 miles daily at 60mph, only tacking 1.5k but still get 13.

I was thinking more like a block behind the gas pedal. Thats really the only thing that works for me.

Knock down a couple inches on the tires and remove the lift.

That will increase your mileage.

I average 17 on the interstate and that has been from stock to a 221 cam and back to a 206 cam all managed about the same mileage so good luck with that one.

I am keeping the tire and lift, but was just wondering if anything would help. I was thinking of getting e-fans and they someone said they gained like 1 mpg. Any similar stories with electric fans? Also since headers would help the motor breath better, I thought they could help to. One last thing. I plan on putting a mild cam like a tr224, would a cam make the gas mileage drop condering I stay out it?

Take my advise, buy a gas saver on craigs, I bought a mx3 with a bad tranny for $350. I priced out the tranny for $300 in Dallas. For about $1000 Will have a 25+ MPG car. Enjoy that truck!

Along with the Efan, make sure you beef up your battery source and or alternator. If your like the rest of us, you being here is not to save money.
