A T56 makes pickups fun to drive but I wouldn't recomend it if you using it to pull much.
From what I can find, the ZF-6 doesn't have a much deeper first gear, and that doesn't leave me much else for 6-speed manuals. I suppose I could do an NVG4500 but I really want that double OD.

Ketis, that looks nice! I put a T56 in my 92 and the shifter is probably 10" farther back than that. What is the deal?? Mine had a big block in front of it. But I was told the distance from the motor mounts to the back of the motor was the same on a 454 and 350. 454 is only longer in front of the mounts. That not true? Or is it because you have a newer 5.3 moves it forward?

NV4500's don't shift all that smooth. I would use an automatic first.

That's unfortunate. What would make the T-56 unsuitable for pulling 6-7k during the summer? Lack of proper clutch selection, too much total weight? I'd obviously have 4.88's to turn the 35's.

You would need A LOT more gear for 35s! I have 4.88s with roughly 30" tires... Turbogibbs on here has 5.13s with the same size tire. You'll need a lot higher gear to even just get performance back to stock with those big tires.

Okay, that's unfortunate. I can only go to 5.13's with the 8.25" front differential in the half-ton... With the automatic the 4.88's were better than stock gearing (35" mud terrains + 4.88's with a 4L60e) however I just chew apart automatics, was looking for something a bit more robust as well as fun...

Damn. Off to see what availability there is for the ZF-6 in a truck...

Some fella on here swapped in a ZF-6 into an Avalanche. Do a search and I'm sure it'll pop up.

i am unsure on the shifter loaction. the shifter comes up about an inch or so in front of the center of the hole, so i made a custom shift lever that offsets it to the left about 3 inches and back one inch. i dont have a pic, but when i pony up the cash for a mgw shifter, ill get some pics of the lever.
