Default What servo with transgo?

I noticed most everyone with a transgo is either using a vette servo or doing the spacers on the stock servo. Hitman is the only one I have seen using the billet servos with the transgo. I just got my truck back with a brand spankin new tranny today and want to do a transgo and possiblly step up to the billet servos while I have the tranny out to put my yank back in. I already have a vette servo that I could use but I wanted to see what everyones opinions were since the billets are pretty pricey. So should I add the billets(1-2, od, or both) or just stick with the vette servo??

I went with the vette servo's since they are only 20 bucks. Right now I only have the intermediate one. I am gonna get the OD one once I find someone that has it. I used 1 washer with the kit and drilled all the small holes recommended except for the medium one for the 3rd gear hole. I love the way it shifts. I get no tire barking shifts, but they are nice quick, crisp and firm. I think if it were anymore, then I'd want to be pulling that washer out.

i have the Hd TCI servo. it was about 70 bucks from TCI.
I have no washers double springs, and the servo is for the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts. i get hardly anywheel spin at wot. Maybe a slight chirp. shifts quick and firm.

I have billet servoes for 1-2 & 3-4 shift, no washers in accumulator, and edited out ALL TQM. Pretty good tire spin on 1-2 shift at WOT. Billets can be harsh if you use washers in the accumulator.

Intermediate? Is that the 1-2 and 3-4 or just one of those. What about 2-3? What's the difference between the transgo and the servos? Do they do different things?

I have 0 knowledge when it comes to this and am trying to learn a little as I want to do this soon.

Flyer's setup sounds like exactly what I am looking for. I was just thinking, if I were to go with the billet servos, that would be the time to do it so I could adjust the band clearance. I may just stick with the vette servo for now. Thanks for all the replys but I am still open to suggestions.

The servo's are what fluid hits to apply the band which is your 2nd and OD gear. The corvette servo has a little larger aply area than the stock ones, and the billets even more. Since the servo apply's the band, it will affect shift quality when the apply area is increased by giving more area for the fluid to hit on.

The shift kit, the one everyone talks about is the Transgo kit with the video, they make 3 different kits, the video kit being the most complex one as it changes out several valves and a shitload of springs in the valvebody. The shift kit changes a lot of characteristics of the tranny. It fixes the partial apply of the torque converter clutch so that it doesn't slip anymore. It makes all the shifts MUCH quicker so they aren't near as sloppy. It does some other things that are precautionary steps more than performance benefits as well.

The shift kit increases shift firmness in all gears. The servos are commonly put in at the same time as the shift kit just cause it is easier that way. I hope that cleared it up for ya, lemmie know if you got any more Q's. I'm not by any means a tranny expert, but I'll help ya best I can.

Sorry .. see I forgot your main question. The servos are on the passenger side of the tranny, behind a little heat shield. You can see the heat shield is notched for them if you look at the top front of the heat shield. It may be difficult to see with the catalytic converter inthere. They are a series of pistons and sprins and stuff. There is a long shaft that goes in and contacts a tab on the band. On the shaft is a piston and a cover that fits over that piston, that being the intermediate or 1-2 servo. On top of that, there is another piston, this one being flat, that is the OD servo. The servo's apply the band in the respectivly.

I'll see if I can scan in that page of the instructions, but I don't want to get ATF all over the glass on the scanner, so I might not. I'll take a look at it here in a little bit.

i'd stick with the vette servo. my flp trans has the vette servo and transgo in it and it shift great. anything harder would be real annoying cause its almost too hard now. it spins pretty far on the 1-2 shift and chirps the 2-3 shift.
