4" couplers are what the STS kits comes with so its around 4".
I actually think its a little under. The metal side of the MAF is a little smaller than the plastic side. Trust me, I've had the ****** off too many times to not know.

I was experimenting with an open element design and used a stock filter off of a 99 Tahoe 5.7l. It was the same size as the MAF and fit like a charm. I also noticed that the k&n filter for that application (99 Tahoe) was about $59 and had a clamped end, meaning it would fit the MAF and be a clamped fit instead of a snug compression type fit like the stock filter. Just another option for you, especially if you want to experiment with a cheap stock open element first. Also, if you are doing a homemade cai, look on intakehoses.com. I just built mine and it turned out great, but the main thing is that they sell a reducer bushing from "4 to 3.75" which will help on the MAF side going to the intake. http://intakehoses.com & http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/mer...egory_Code=RIS
