Default What's it take to build up a trans?

I'm thinking about trying to get my transmission built to make it stronger for more horsepower. What's it take to get this done? Do you just buy certain new parts to put in the transmission? What's something like this usually cost? I don't want to have to worry about the tranny goin out....planning 450-550 horsepower.

If you are just talking about buying the parts, then do a internet search for "high performance + 4L60E". You'll find a couple of places. I went with PATC. I called them and they told me what I needed, verified it with my tranny builder, then ordered the parts. About $750 for the parts. Will be more for you if you go up to 5-pinion planetaries.

I went to them as well ... they are local to me. Here's what I got from them.

Master Rebuild kit (all new clutches and gaskets with blue 3/4 clutches)
Billet servos (Intermediate and overdrive)
billet 1-2 accumulator piston (mine was cracked when it was tore down)
Torque Drive system (which includes a hardened input shaft, input drum and a reaction shell better than 'The Beast')
New GM Drum
Raybestos Pro Series Band
And a new piston and spring set that goes with the Torque Drive system.

I think that's it .. but it all added up to be about 750 or so.

I was going to try and rebuild it myself, but I ended up having someone do it for me.

Mine was more of a favor ... I pulled and put the tranny back in place.

Should only be $4-500. My parts will go in next week. A couple hundred less, if you pull the tranny yourself - should be anyway.

Most places don't like to do bench jobs so they can make sure everything is replaced correctly. I can understand why since they have to put their name on a good tranny in a bad install and have to replace and fix what you broke.

Have you contacted any of the Tranny shops over on the side?------>>>>>>>>>>>>>

TCI has some great parts and a lot of guys swear by them. I talked with them a while back, but decided to go local with a shop since I will not be pulling it mself.

If I was going with a sponser built tranny, I'd go FLP all the way.
