when i did the whipple a year ago it was a prety easy install, gave me a 1.4sec quicker et. most people that ride in my truck don't even know i have a whipple unless i floor it then it makes some noise but not alot. it doesn't come with any programer, it has a piggy back computer that controls the aditional injectors, from what i can tell it isn't adjustabe at all. it is great when towing, as the truck starts up a hill the boost edges up to 2-3psi and the truck just pulls the hill, never shifting out of overdrive and you can barely hear the whipple. i can tow my 3000lb enclosed trailer at 90mph and never shift out of OD, and get 14mpg.

so far my luck geting more power than just the whipple kit came with isn't working out so well. i tossed a 6.0 in there and a yank along with bigger injectors so i dont even use the whipple computer or injector set up, still waiting on exhaust. it seems to me that once you go past the stock supercharger set up you better be ready to work out some bugs.

Right out of the box my whipple was way quiet. Now that I have a ho-made (I'm the ho that made it) ram air with an open filter it sounds like a fire truck coming down the road when at WOT. Just as parish8 said you can tow heavy loads and not even downshift. I dynoed mine right out of the box and then after the custom tune. Whipple had it set up a little rich but when I upped the boost a couple pounds it fell right in there around 12:1. I guess their add on injectors work pretty good. I considered the Magna with the powertrain warranty but the low boost/ or warranty void scenario scared me away. Enough is never enough!!! And I knew I would be modding it. If you go whipple be prepared for crap customer service. If I had it to do over I would go with the whipple again. Just my .03 (trying to offset the rising costs of postage stamps)

I run a magnacharger in my 01 5.3. I ENJOY it, and the install is cake. @WOT it runs @ 8 psi. If you want instant boost, Whipple is the way to go. But it seems with the whipple, people tend to run lean with them. Which in turn requires aditional tunning. The Magna comes with the SuperChips tuner, tuned for the blower, in addition to the flow matched 8.1 marine injectors. What nice though is that the new top speed is 140, and when you order you kit you can have superchips enhance the shift firmness, up the mph betweens shifts, and all that good stuff. there is a bit of lag, but other than throwing a belt ( I had the wrong one on) and nuking trans with 7k miles on it from beating the **** out of it, the kit is great. Now traction is a pain in the ***, but im working on it. good luck

Default whipple vs magnacharger

Wondering what the difference is between the whipple s/c and the magnacharger s/c. They both seem very similar in design but is there a difference in performance or reliability?

Whipple seems to be more popular but is it because Magnacharger may not be as well known or not around as long?

Looking for instant boost at low RPM so ATI Procharger is out, right?

Hey 1999- I will try to get some pics today. I don't know how to post pics but I would love to show off my design and get some opinions whether people like it or not.

Howzit IslandTahoe! When you get your whipple in let me know so I can take a look at it. I'm out in Mililani.

What other mods have you done to your Tahoe?
