Just yank out the 4L60 and stuff in the 4L80...they are the same size and they are interchangeable...the computer won't care which one is in there.

As for the gearing...

Gear....4L60.....4L80
1st.....3.08.....2.48
2nd.....1.62.....1.48
3rd.....1.00.....1.00
4th.....0.70.....0.75

so to get the same acceleration performance you would have to go ftom a 3.42 rear gear to a 4.10 rear gear...which is always a good thing no matter which tranny you have

Click Here to compare the gear ratios of the 4l60, 4l80e, and the th-400.

my personal choice would be to buy one direct from GM...you get the factory warranty

The price is about $1700-$1850 depending on where you get it from though

as for the 4L65-E....it's not a bad tranny...just based upon the old 700R4 like every other 4L6* series....stick with the heavy duty 4L80....you'll thank yourself in the long run

The 4l80e is interchangable w/the 4l60e? No driveshaft shortening or crossmember moving?
I would buy a 4l80e and upgade to 4:10's before trying to make the stock one stonger.
With all the mods for the engine why is buying aftermarket Tranny stuff so risky? I have heard bad things about Jet, not much about B&M or Hughes. WTF? For the 4l80e In order to get the factory warranty do you have to have it installed buy a Chevy dealer? <img border="0" alt="[bomb]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bomb.gif" />

You DO need to use the 4L80 crossmember...which you CAN purchase...or fab a tubular one....the holes are already in the frame for the crossmember, the 4L80 is 3/4" shorter than the 4L60 but the holes for the T-case mount holes (if you have one) are elongated to accept the shorter tranny..the driveshaft slip yoke depth will make up the difference between the two transmissions without a problem....I have seen this conversion done, it took about 4 hours of shop time to do it and the guy drove in and drove out

Everything I've heard says the 4L80E is a bigger transmission than the 4L60E and there may be problems putting the 4L80E into a regular 1500 truck.

mix, what kind of hook up are we talking about here? what are you running in your ride? my tranny is slippin like hell now so i think it's getting close to time for a new one that can handle some torque. it's weird how i never had any trouble until i ran n2o through it. weird...
