alright so i was talkin to this guy and he said someone recommended you not do a helicoil on aluminum heads because eventually it will eject the plug. iron heads are fine but the helicoil will not hold in the aluminum heads. if i can find a few people that have done it, put more miles on with no issue, i might just tell him to do it anyways. if i need it BTW. thanks.

edit: this is for the threads for the spark plug hole...

I've heard that heli-coils are actually better for Al. heads, because the threads will be made of steel and not aluminum. I've only heli-coiled threads on my carb and it appears that the threads are stronger, because I have yet to strip them too.

i did.... none taken. i cleaned out the threads as best i could and got the plug about halfway in, i didnt want to use a thread tap/chaser myself so i took it to my friends dad who owns a shop. it ran decently on 7cylinders. worst case scenario he'll have to ship the head out to be repaired. no im not doing the helicoil myself. and i dont really think my mechanically abilities are to blame with this going on. my LT problems i think were do to a BROKEN plug that i just found and i cant control what crap gets into my threads. maybe i did take some offence.

yea the threads will be stronger but what he was told that to hole in the head will not hold the helicoil threads sufficiently. he said he tried it on a couple other cars and it blew the plug out eventually. so ill just trust him i guess

I agree I beleive they are stronger due to being made out of steel. Also when you tighten the bolt they bite into the aluminum better. I have head one on my snowmobile motor for 2 season with no trouble.

thats what i was thinkin, someone is selling some 5.3 heads with 1000 miles on them for 175. i think im gonna jump on it and see what the cheapest place to get them ported and polished to best suit my cam. but they are gonna work on just straightening the threads in these current heads so hopefully thatll be sufficient. pray for me. the only positive that i can see coming from this situation is if the heads are shot, its an expensive repair, and i can find a really cheap 6.0 complete assembly.
