8.1?

I will say there is no comparison in towing at altitude. Diesels kick azz.....

That being said, my first 60k on my 8.1 have been trouble free. Ok torque, much better then a stock 6.0, better then a PSD 7.3, no D max or common rail 5.9, but I would take it over a 12/24v or a 7.3 psd.

The 6.0 PSD hasn't been very reliable for us, but it pulls fantastic.

Yeah the insurance thing is always an option. I actually started calling around and found a plate in Michigan called Merchant Automotive who will sell me every gasket, all bolts, and head gaskets for $434 shipped to do the swap so thats what im doing. I didnt think i could find the parts this cheap. I am also going to swap the water pump while i am in there. I'm not ordering any parts until i get the heads off and make sure the cylinder walls are ok and that there are no cracked heads or anything.

That makes a lot more sense to me. Changing fuel systems can be a serious pain. And it sounds like you were having a lot of problems with other areas that wouldn't be changed by the diesel to gas swap (brakes, rust, etc). Drive it for an other year or so, and then if you still aren't happy, sell it then and buy a 6.0 truck.
