damn, I get plent of responses here. I will be looking for a lm7 specifically cause I want the dished pistons. I will be swapping heads, so no concern with those. different camshaft springs and rods. I just thought I read somewhere the 03+ model lm7's had better internals(not sure what though). I did read the wiki link posted above last night, lots of info. I am just looking for something that says about internals mainly (ie. the 03 models had upgraded connecting rods or rod bolts whatever) So I know what year model I should be shooting for. Thanks, lots of help so far, keep it coming also DOD is displacement on demand correct? I am guessing it won't matter if I get one of these lm7's with this will it? That's just all electronics, I can just ditch it and do what I want I assume

The 04+ LQ4s (6.0s) had stronger internals, but I dont think that applies to the 5.3s.

I thought it was 05+ that got the LQ9 internals...haven't heard anything about upgraded 5.3 internals though...

The L33 do not forget has the LS6 heads. A tiny bit more cam too. Mine loves the Radix. It got the coated piston skirts and the floating wrist pins and is a silent running motor even when cold.
It's also 100 lbs lighter in full trim compared to the LM7. A wash with the 80+lbs of the Radix kit.

But if you gotta have dished.

Ok, so I should just shoot for the newest/lowest mileage lm7 I can find. Seems there are no differences between the years

Yes! look for the best deal you can find on a low mile engine. If you are going to do a full tear down/ rebuild it doesn't matter.

Higher compression is better for boost. It requires less pressure to achieve the same final compression, and is more fun to drive around town. Turbo's do not spool at low to mid throttle, so when you run more compression the vehicle will be less of a dog in the lower throttle driving. Higher compression also makes the turbo spool faster.

Not according to everything Ive ever been taught or read about.

Airflow(good heads/intake/exhaust) is better because then it requires less boost to make the same power. Id rather run 4-5 PSI than 8-10psi if both options netted me the same power.

i agree with this statement. thats how i'm building my L33, 10.4:1 @ 8psi is the same as running 9:1 at 12psi
