The thermostat changed on the trucks for 2004. I believe the 2003 still have the old style that come with the integral housing which you can modify yourself. You can't mod the 2004 thermostat because they are stamped (crimped) together. You can't take them apart with a quarter turn like you can on the old style but, they are cheaper because you retain the thermostat housing and just change the thermostat itself like the older chevy small block type thermostat. I got mine from Lingenfelter. It still cost $30 with shipping but, nothing on an LS1 is cheap. I tested this one on the stove too. It opens just over 160 F. I put it in and now my water temp stays at 185 F as long as the truck is moving. Once I get in stop and go traffic the temp slowly creaps up to about 195 F and then drops back down as soon as I hit highway speeds again. It has not hit the former running temp of 205 F since I installed the 160 F stat. I also installed one of the oil cooler adapters that come on the 6 liter truck so I could put in an oil cooler so that proably helps lower the overall temperature a bit as well.
