See what kind of warranty these engine builders give you. That is really important in my opinion. I will be going with WCCH when I have one built. One other person that has not been mentioned is Rick @ Synergy .

WCCH is in CA. I would've mentioned Rick @ Synergy, ya beat me to it. I've never had either build me a motor. Consider tho, Trever has Rick do his work, & that 5.3 runs w/ the best of em. Oh ya, Synergy is in CA too.

Midwest? LPE is $, but they turn out solid work. They're kinda local to you, & if I could afford them, I would try em.

Like someone said, just cause they're not on internet or across the country, doesn't mean good workmanship can't be found close to home. Finding out who may be a different story.

Forgot about Myron. Good call Ray. Ya, throw them into the mix too. Honestly, I think they might be a little more reasonable then LPE. But again, that was yrs. ago. TPIS certainly does nice work! If I had to pick a Midwest builder that knows Ls motors, someone that does a decent job, I'd give them the nod. LPE is closer to me, & gets all the press. I just like to be different.

To do yourself, don't ya need a few special tools on LS based over Gen1 SBC?
Thought ya need special for timing cover to prevent cover gasket/ seal damage & a couple other things unique to our motors?
I haven't dinked around inside GenIII motors...yet.

I'm pretty much just looking for someone to do the machine work. I can assembly the rest. Probably will have them just assembly the short block so they will know the clearances are all right.

Erik K is a pretty cool guy and guy with engines. He was one of my teachers at the School of Automotive Machinists.
