I dont know why but I can tell you it works. My stock 00 pcm would get 8deg knock sometimes, for no good reason. I swapped to a stock 02 pcm and it all went away. Not to mention the truck ran alot better and just felt more responsive over all.

I dont see why it wouldnt work with a 99, in fact I believe a member on here did that swap.

If you want to do it complete, you need to add a little wire from the alternator to the PCM to keep the battery light from flashing. Otherwise I havnt noticed any problems.

Hey Mac, haven't seen ya in awhile!

Anyway, do a search on here, there are a few 99 guys that have done this, and Allen is very helpful helping you work through it. I think there was a pretty extensive thread awhile back where creederado did the swap and all the battery light stuff.

I did it on my '99 and gained a tenth in the 1/4 !!! Also seem to be getting better gas mileage. You don't need to add the wire if you don't want to, Allen just turned the code off and the light stopped flashing. My '99 PCM's max timing on a good day was I think 16 or 19 degrees and w/ the '02 PCM I'm getting a little over 30 !!! A good mod if you ask me...Zed

I've been meaning to do this. I just haven't had the need for an update. I know my timing is all over the place. It sucks, I step on the gas and I'm like, wonder what its gonna do?

I have an 02 PCM in my 99, man what a difference. After my cam install it was 7.9* of KR every time I hit the gas. Had Bryan at PCMforLess do an 02 PCM for me and my KR is gone. I still have to run the wire from the alt to the PCM though, just haven't gotten around to it...need to pick up a terminal end somewhere (probably just snip one at a junkyard or something). Not sure exactly what the difference is, but there definitely is a difference.
