Are the 02 pcms the best? What about an 03? Because I have an 03 sitting in my garage.

Its not he physical PCM, its the operating system loaded on the PCM. the 99s were horrible stock tunes. Even tuning that operating system with Edit wouldn't get all the power out of it. The 02s have a much hotter tune base, so its much easier to get more out of it. The 02s have more torque management, but that can be cleared easier than the false knock issues of the earlier models.

I was happy to get just over 20* timing using LS1 Edit on my 99 without knocking. The first 02 PCM I saw was getting 24+ with just a hypertech. My 99 made 218 rwhp stock with a hypertech. Its not uncommon for bone stock 02s to make 240+ rwhp.

Damn!!!! I have over 28* with NO KNOCK on my 2000 with Edit. I had it bump that high with the Pedator also with no knock. I'm going to double check that number, but I know we didnt add any timing with Edit and had no knock with either tune. The only reason I wanted to swap to an 02 was to just remove EGR.

Thanks guy now you got me worried about my truck. Anytime I would go to WOT it would pull 5deg for knock no mater what and I was get 17 total timing with a HPPIII. I already have a edit for it. Seams that GM had the 8.1 severely detuned.
