Why is no one running a 2004R in the trucks??

Exactly. I'd rather have a trans(4L80E) built to hold 1200hp behind a 700+hp engine than a trans that might hold 850hp.

just dropped my truck off today with Mike Kurts at Century Automotive. He said that he has done the 200R4 swap many times for the Fbodies but hasnt done one for the trucks yet. although he recommends the 200R4 before putting in one of those monster 4L80E's.

see i ave thought about a th350/400 cause they are so cheep. like 1500 for tranny and verter from trans king who builds bas a$$ stuff. the only reason i dont want to do it is cause of 3 gears and no lock up. but it might be a temp option while waiting for money to do an 80.

I think I'd stick w/ the 80E. I wouldn't be interested in having to rig up an older style transmission for a new truck. They might work OK in a lightweight buick, but I wouldn't mess with it on a 5000 pound truck.

I don't think GM ever offered a 2004R in a truck.I know that stock 2004Rs were weak when they first came out.And a truck weighes about 1000lbs more than a Buick Grand National,they better do one heck of a buildup.

That would be my only concern would be a 200R4 can be built to handle some crazy power, but I just don't know if they are beefy enough to handle a 4500-5500 lb. truck. A TH400 can be had with an overdrive gear and lockup, but it would probably be simpler to go with a 80E if you are looking at that option.

For those that want to put a 200 into your trucks, this will take care of all the TV cable problems. These guys make great stuff, and their TV made easy systems give a lot of adjustments to get the TV adjusted perfectly

Thanks for all the replys guys. I have no prior knowledge of the 2004R, so when I heard bout it, I had to find out why it's not being used. I read a post about Mike TexaSS running the 200 in his Impy, and figured it might work in our trucks. I don't know what a TV cable is, so I'll take you guys word on it. Thanks again for the replys

That 200-4R is just like Fords AOD...really crappy stock but can be built to be a monster. But you must remember they aren't too good in all out drag apps...even if you can get the internals to hold the massive heat created by that power is going to take it's toll on the clutches. Plan a yearly rebuild on somethin like that. If you are planning to go all out and keep this a daily driver, step to a TH400+GV or the 4L80E...if I was doin that Ford wise I'd just to the E4OD/4R100 or C6+GV.

Besides that, you can get a wide ratio gear set installed in the 4L80E when it's rebuilt...

TV Cable = Throttle Valve. Basically shifts are based on a cable attached to the valve body and the throttle body. More pedal increases line pressure and shift points. The TV is the life line to the tranny. If improperly setup there will be too much or too little line pressure...that's what killed the AOD in my F150...low pressure under load.
