Default why not?

Why does everyone switch (or want to switch) from a 4l60 to a 4l80 and not a 6 speed?

i think the reason noone is switching to the 6 speed is weight. and if you want good performance and a stick then you will have to get a grabber clutch which will be a nuisence after a while. i dont think it would last either.i suppose you could build it to work.

I wanted a T56, but didn't think that there would be a clutch that would last long w/ any kind of power put to it. Also, no one had done an A4-M6 swap at the time, so I didn't know what all would be needed to make the swap, and I didn't want to be the guinea pig.

For me, I'd have had to give up the AWD transfer case -- something I'm not willing to do.

#1 6-speeds suck for the track compared to an auto with a good converter.

#2 The clutch required to handle the kind of power, me, Erik, Parish, Flyer, 02Denali, etc etc etc are trying to put down would run well into the $1000-$1500 range and even then there are no guarantees.

I watch all my buddies go through clutches like no tomorrow and then bitch and whine about slipping and such. This is on LS1 cars too, our trucks are usually 1000-2000lbs heavier.

Those are my reasons.

What they said ^ and a auto to auto swap is relatively straight forward. The auto to stick swap is more complicated. Having to add a third peddle and entire clutch assembly makes the swap more difficult.

If its for racing a 6 speed is not the way to go.

If its for cruising/fun a 6 speed would kick ***-to many ways when racing to miss a gear or down shift accidently at a high rpm and blow your motor or through a rod or something.

Hey wait a minute, I am going with a T56. I love racing my truck at the track, but I miss shifting. I want to make a fun/cruiser truck. Two guys that I know of have done the swap, hopefully I won't run into to many problems. I am going with the Z06 clutch, because it is cheap and easy to replace. I am not putting down that much power so we will see how long it will last.
