Here is an interesting picture from www.bosch.com about O2 sensors. They say a picture is worth a thousand words...

wich is the "02", since that is what the sensor reads? i am sure there are lots of changes across the cat but does what the sensor reads change?

this is a intresting question, i would like to know for sure. seems like at the dyno many people would be seeing the wrong numbers since they usualy measure at the tail pipe.

No your absolutely right that you can put it behind the cat, depending on hardware used.... Higher end setups like the Horiba or Motec systems allow you to calibrate for things like that. Many of the sub-$700 units do not, and you must find the technical brief or white-papers on those sensors to find the correct operating Temperature for them.

On my past turbo'd cars, 12-24" after the turbo is what I did. Pressure affects readings too! Put it pre-turbo, and you will get different readings unless calibrated for such.

With it only costing about $10 to get a new bung welded on to your pipe pre-cat, post turbo. You should see what kinds of differences there are. I'll even paypal you $5 bucks to offset the cost for a bung and welding

EDIT: had to change a word to the correct term

Default Pro M

I am running the Pro M wide band, love the compact size! I have my power signal coming from the fuel pump curcuit, that way the element isent being heated unless the truck is running.
