Will 255's hook with a 3000 stall?
I need a new pair of shoes for my truck and really like the Kumho Ecsta STX's in the 255/65 R16 size. My current tires are the factory 235/75 R16's Wranglers and believe it or not I am able to hook just fine at the track in stock form. My long term plans include a Yank TT3000 stall (not much else), but I wonder if the 255's will hold it?
If you advise against it, what tires would you recommend? I need to keep the stock rims and would like the tires to measure around 29" for gearing and weight purposes. I want the least amount of tire that will do the job.
Whats your opinion?

It depends on track conditions. It is possible but most likely they will spin. I have 285/60s and they would not spin at all on a good track with the stock stall. I have been to another lousier track since the 3000 install and it just smoked em. I think at a good prepped track it is possible with a mostly stock 5.3 and 3000 stall. You might check out the 285/60s though, they have a little more contact patch but at 120 plus they shake!!! I don't know what brand to recommend though. Mine are GY Eagle GT2 but I know there are MANY better brands but I live in a small town outside of Waco and selection sucks but I get credit there. Good luck man and keep killing Hemis!!!

Judging from your sig .. it looks like your a tow truck more than a racer. Have you thought about stepping down to the 2600? If I didn't have big power in the future, thta's what I would do. The 3000 will give you a good launch if you can hook up, but that might be a problem. You can forget trying to stall it and launch it from anything above idle. I was getting GREAT traction the other day and blew them loose stalling to 1500 and hammering it off the line.
I don't know what tire to recommend, but I know I wouldn't get the GY Eagle GT2. They corner good, but aren't much better than factory for launching I think. Mine are 275/60/16.

Ask anyone at the track in Hattisburg this weekend how much success I had hooking my new kumho ecstas, and I don't have any real power mods. I would not suggest these tires if you plan on racing on them. I couldn't hook them for sh$# on my 17s, so with your mods, I would say go another route.
