Default Worth it?

2012 2wd Crewcab Silverado. 4.8 3:90 gears, Long-tubes into a single 3", cai and BB tune. trans pan and cooler.
I inherited a 6500LB Camper. The truck can pull it. It has no-*** lol. It's my DD, with a small lowering kit. BlackBear recommended Vinci Cams. I bought a small 205*/208* @.050 cam (114* lobe) i believe. I was gonna shave the 243 heads .025 to pick up the 8:8:1 compression. L20 4.8. Surely doing this is worth it right? If i could find a 58x 5.3 crank, rods and pistons---I'd do that. $2000 budget.
I'm reading and learning.........Old man- new to LS engines

BTW 120K miles on 4.8, Clean motor, runs well..... just weak. 6.0 or 6.2 probably is out of my $$$$ range

I think you can get a 6.0 and do a cam for under $2k. That'd be the best $ per HP, in my opinion.

I'd love to find one!. LKQ sells them around 3400 plus shipping. I've seen none anywhere close to me. (gen 4 58x). I need more bottom end when i do pull my camper. 3rd gear running about 60 or 65mph it turns about 2700rpm. I may have to up my budget but i want another gun lol

I hear that.

My only advice is to be patient. Hunt on FB marketplace and check out your local junkyards or U-Pull-Its.

are the GenIV pistons not the same between 4.8 & 5.3 (unlike the GenIII being dishes in the 5.3 [except the LS4 & L33])?

It is possible to find a Gen IV 6.0 for under 2k but stupid hard for some reason. I've only seen a couple in the past few months.

I do believe they are the same zebra

Buy a clapped out 2500hd work truck for $2500ish, take the engine and trans (you'll need it eventually), and part out the rest.

When you're done with the swap, sell your 4.8 and end up profiting in the end.

I's rent a u-haul pickup and punish it instead of your DD... if you only camp a few time a year.

I've read the L20 pistons have either more or deeper reliefs for the vvt. Hence the ,8.8:1 compression vs the non vvt 4.8 at ,9.2:1. (That's why I thought of just shaving the heads .025 and installing the cam I bought and letting it go. Still no torque, bit it would have to be somewhat better
