would a single 3 1/2" exhaust be too much for a stock 5.3
I'm about fed up with the lack of sound of the Dynomax on my 99. I like the tone at idle but its almost got a constant drone when under a load or getting on it. No real tone and not very loud, it just sounds like crap.
So I'm thinking about getting an Aeroturbine 3535XL. I've got a 6 liter 3 1/2 inch tailpipe and then just build the pipe from the Y pipe back out of 3 1/2 inch. Would it be too much though? The 3535XL is straight through and is actually supposed to scavenge the exhaust really well almost like having a vacuum on the tailpipe so they say. The only thing done to the 5.3 is its tuned and will be getting an air intake upgrade, not CAI, intake upgrade.
I do like how this Sierra sounds though.

Do you have the 3" from a 6.0 or the 3.5" from a 6.2? 3.5 is definitely overkill on a stock 5.3. Also, these exhaust systems will definitely take some massaging to fit onto your 99.
Are you opposed to just buying that muffler in a 3" set up and running it Dumped with your current 3" exhaust?

The tailpipe I've got was from an 04 2500HD system. The muffler was all cracked out but the tailpipe was in good shape so I grabbed it. Its the one with the Y built into the tailpipe inlet. I could have swore it was 3 1/2 inches in diameter. I will just build the system to fit, no trying to make a stock system fit here and I don't like dumped exhaust. Maybe it is too big but it feels to me like 2 3/4 is too small even with a 3 inch straight through dynomax ultra flow. Back in the day they told me dual 2 1/2 inch exhaust on a stock 5.7 350 TBI motor was way too much but I touche`d them on that. More than anything I'm ready for something different. The dynomax just kind of groans under a load, not a growl or any sort of decent tone for some reason.

Yep I measured it this morning because I was even questioning myself and it is 3 1/2 inches. It did come off a long bed truck but I think the hangers are close if not the same as a short bed but the pipe will exit at the corner of the bed rather than behind the rear tire like on a long bed. I need to do some more measuring and see if this is going to be worth the effort or not.
